Prices are the lowest publicly listed on each company's own site or app store listing in July 2026, before tax and any format upgrades. Where a company publishes different prices in different places, or does not publish one at all, the table says so rather than guessing. Some services also price by credit or token pack, so your real cost depends on how often you make a story. Check current pricing before buying — this page will be behind eventually.
When Wonderbly is genuinely the right choice
We would rather say this plainly than pretend otherwise. Wonderbly has sold more than eleven million books across some 140 countries, and Penguin Random House acquired the company in 2025 — this is not a fly-by-night operation, and the books are lovely objects. Buy one when the story is not the point: a christening, a first birthday, a grandparent who wants something to hand over. A file cannot be unwrapped, and a printed book still sits on the shelf in fifteen years. If that is what you are shopping for, close this tab and go and buy the book.
When a printed book is the wrong tool
The mismatch shows up on ordinary Tuesdays. A personalized book costs around thirty-five dollars and arrives days later, and then it is one story — the same one, every night, until your child has it memorised. Bedtime is not an occasion, it is a nightly appointment, and buying a keepsake for it means paying gift prices for something you need 365 times a year. That is the gap every digital option on this page exists to fill.
The part that isn’t on the comparison table
Every Z Tales story is written under rules the storyteller cannot break. It goes near the thing your child is actually facing rather than around it — the first day, the new baby, the dog who died — at their size, and it does not fix it, because nothing you read at bedtime does. Nobody is told to be brave, and no character announces what they learned.
