Jungle and Safari Bedtime Stories
Jungle and safari stories are full of noise in the daytime: monkeys, parrots, elephants trumpeting. At bedtime, the trick is to follow the animals as they settle down, one by one, as the sun goes down. Each animal has its own way of going to sleep, which gives a child something to copy.
Here is a complete safari story to read aloud tonight, free. To make one starring your child, by name, start from this page and the Jungle adventure world is already chosen. It takes about thirty seconds.
Kofi’s Sunset Safari
A free story to read aloud tonight
Kofi and his big sister were on a safari, in a jeep with no roof, and the sun was going down orange over the long grass.
First they saw the elephants, walking slowly to the water hole for one last drink. The baby elephant held its mother’s tail with its trunk, so it wouldn’t get lost in the dark.
Then they saw the giraffes, folding their long legs underneath them, very carefully, the way you fold a deck chair. And the zebras, standing close together, stripes against stripes.
In the trees, the monkeys were the last to stop chattering, of course. But even they curled up in a pile, all tails and ears, and went quiet.
The lion was already asleep, on his back, with his paws in the air. “Lions sleep most of the day,” whispered the guide. Kofi laughed, very quietly, so he wouldn’t wake him.
The stars came out, more than Kofi had ever seen. Back at camp, Kofi curled up in his sleeping bag like the monkeys, held on to his sister’s sleeve like the baby elephant, and fell asleep.
What age are jungle bedtime stories for?
Roughly 2 to 7. Younger children enjoy naming and copying the animals; older ones like the details, like how a giraffe folds its legs to lie down.
Can my child pick their favorite animal?
Yes. Starting from this page, the Jungle adventure world is already chosen. Or type their favorite animal into the “My own…” box instead, like “a sleepy tiger by the river”, and the story is built around it.
